“Community is much more than belonging to something: it is about doing something together that makes belonging matter.” Knowing about our community helpers is a matter of pride, concern and a sense of responsibility to give our bit. This activity is to know who are our helpers and their duties in a fun, competitive and interesting way.
Background:
Helpfulness is an important part of good social development, and there are many excellent ways for children to practice being helpful. It is easy to make them understand and teach about our helpers since we see Community Helpers in so many places throughout our daily routine. By getting to know our Community Helpers, children get inspired by those who work to make our world a better place to live.

Steps:
Decide and make a list of the community helpers that you want to start with. You can also use the one we provided.
Select pictures of these helpers and take a print out and cut them individually (You can draw them as well)
For each helper, take a printout of any accessory that they use to do their job (You can draw them as well)
Now cut chart paper like flashcards. and dedicate each card with one helper figure and their tools cut-outs.
Accessorize your book and tie the pages together.

A community helper is anyone that helps keep our community functioning well
Teachers: Teachers help children learn the things they need to know to be successful in life. They use textbooks, computers, and pictures to teach their students
Accessory: Book, Pen
Sanitation Workers: They keep our neighborhoods clean, pick up garbage and recyclable materials and they use big garbage trucks to carry the trash to landfills where it is discarded
Accessory: Sweeper, Broom
Doctors: Doctors are people who practice medicine. Doctors are trained to keep people healthy and to heal the sick. They work at hospitals
Accessory: Stethoscope, Medicines
Police Officers: They are a group of people whose job it is to enforce laws, help with emergencies, solve crimes and protect the public. They work out of a police station
Accessory: Gun, Handcuffs, Radio
Firefighters: They are people whose job is to put out fires and rescue people. In a city, the building they work in is called a fire station, or fire hall
Accessory: Long Hoses
Mail Carrier: It is an employee of a post office or postal service, who delivers mail and parcel post to residences and businesses
